And We Trust Them - Why !?
by Ellen Lundgren
I don't trust governments, multi-national corporations, or religious organizations.
Don't get me wrong, I love my church, my country, and even my consumer lifestyle that is supported by multinational corporations. I love and trust individuals.
Where my fear and distrust enter the picture is when enough people organize into an institution. When an organization becomes so big or so powerful that the organizational goals become more important than the individuals.
I believe many people feel as do I. When I listen to the radio news or read the newspaper I learn that many vocal groups go even beyond distrust and actually express hatred for political leaders, churches, and corporations. How many times have you heard hateful remarks about President Bush, Enron, Hilary Clinton, or the Roman Catholic Church? If you share my experience, the instances are too numerous to count.
That is why I am so perplexed about the popular push for nationalized health care and/or the desire to have government control fuel prices. The very same people who would tear down America's largest institutions, all the way up to and including our government, are crying out for government to control more and more of our lives.
Why do they trust the government to provide so well for us? Why do they expect national health care to be better run and organized than any other governmental regime, Social Security, Homeland Security, the IRS?
Where is the logic in handing over major portions of our personal lives and well being to the government, the biggest corporation/organization of them all?
Why do those who distrust, and even hate, the government want the government to run our healthcare system, control fuel prices, and in effect, become even more involved in our everyday lives?
